The latest capacity strengthening service of GTP is to offer externally funded, or the so-called tailored short courses, in lower- to middle-income countries. This new service was triggered by an urgent need for training in countries planning to fast-track their geothermal development.
This has proven a good opportunity for some countries/institutions in need of a rapid capacity strengthening process, beyond what GTP can service under its conventional operations funded by the Icelandic Government. These tailored, or custom-made, short courses are either funded by the institutes themselves and / or through external mechanisms available to finance such events. The institute/country in need provides the funding and defines the outline of the Short Course and the training needed, while GTP provides the experience and networking of suitable experts as well as the guarantee of the quality of the content.
The first such courses were held in 2010. The contents of the courses vary from general geoscientific courses to more specialisted content such as geothermal drilling, or scaling and corrosion in geothermal installation.
