Fellows of the 15th cohort of the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme graduated from the six-month training in a ceremony, held on 14 September at the Keldnaholt campus of the Agricultural University of Iceland.

The GRÓ LRT fellows submitted their individual project reports over the weekend and the final scheduled programme activity in this year’s six-month training was today: the so-called evaluation day.

The GRÓ LRT fellows had the honour of visiting the President of Iceland, Mr. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, at Bessastaðir, the presidential residence, this morning.

As this year’s six-month programme draws to an end, the GRÓ LRT fellows presented the results of their final projects in an open seminar at Keldnaholt campus of the Agricultural University of Iceland. The fellows have been working on their projects over the last months under the supervision of specialists from institutes and organizations in Iceland.

Last week, the GRÓ LRT fellows went on a four-day excursion to Northern Iceland where they visited restoration sites and learned about how land conditions have been improved with innovative approaches by individuals, NGOs, as well as national agencies such as the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland.

Last week, the Deputy Director of GRÓ LRT, Ms Berglind Orradóttir, visited GRÓ LRT’s partner institutions in Ghana: Environmental Protection Agency Ghana, both the Head Office in Accra and the Regional Office in Tamale; the CSIR-Soil Research Institute in Kumasi; and the CSIR-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute and the University for Development Studies, both in Tamale. The purpose of the visit was to meet the directors of the four institutions and interview potential candidates for GRÓ LRT Fellowship to attend our annual six-month training in Iceland. And as always in GRÓ LRT’s visits to partner countries, the Deputy Director also met with GRÓ LRT alumni in Ghana, but 24 specialists from the four institutions have completed GRÓ LRT training in Iceland.
